Remember the first time you had to choose your new snowboard gear? Whether it was 15 years ago or for the first time this season, chances are you would have felt pretty excited about it all the same. Even now, every new purchase still brings me a kind of nervous apprehension: will that new board handle as well as the last? Will those boots be too stiff? Will that jacket actually keep me warm? Quite often the best you can do is aim to make an informed decision and then hope for the best.
I believe that this nervous excitement is to be expected with a sport that is so deeply rooted in creativity and personal expression. The moment we strap into our boards we get a chance to express ourselves as individuals in the ways that only we know best. Whether that be dialling in a jump line in the park or swooping down an empty backcountry bowl, it is these personal experiences that define us as snowboarders and is what so many of us thrive on.
The gear that we choose to use largely influences the way we ride and the tricks we do. On some levels I think that our enjoyment of snowboarding correlates with the amount of trust that we can put in our gear. There is nothing better than knowing your equipment inside out: the way your bindings flex when powering through a toeside turn or the way your boards press on a rail all contribute to the overall experience of snowboarding.
It is for these reasons that I always look forward to the time of year when the colourful new product catalogues and photos from the tradeshows begin to circulate online. The search can then continue for that perfect board or innovative new piece of kit that just might top the last. The really nice thing is that our sport is evolving – and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down. More brands appear every year; some simply represent new marketing for the same old products while a few bring truly original concepts to the table. Today’s plethora of unusual camber profiles, board shapes, innovative materials and construction methods can all present a rather tricky conundrum. While greatly increasing our choices, it can also make it that much more difficult to pick the gear that will really work for each of our very particular riding styles.
It is with all this in mind that we decided to launch Mpora Gear Snowboarding, the second sport to launch on Mpora Gear.
Mpora gear is an action sports product comparison and review site, which aims to provide you with a comprehensive and immersive gear-focused resource.
On the main product site you will be able to find informative product descriptions, brand product videos and user generated review content. Here on the blog we will be posting everything snowboard gear related, from product photos and video reviews to the latest product news from around the globe.
